How to save the planet: 15 simple things everyone can do

Global warming, ozone holes, deforestation, abnormal ocean temperatures - this is not a complete list of the "diseases" of planet Earth, to which humanity has contributed. Now we either have to correct our mistakes or continue to destroy the environment and rapidly approach post-apocalyptic scenarios in real life.

The New York Times, which came out on August 5 with a black cover, reminded us of the biggest problem of our planet, which humanity pays little attention to - the environmental one. In the article "Losing the Earth," the author wrote: "30 years ago, we earthlings had a chance to save the Earth. But we didn't.

It is not too late. We can save the planet if:

Consume resources rationally

  • Turn off the lights in the room, the computer monitor, and don't forget about chargers in the socket.
  • Use water sparingly.
  • Replace incandescent bulbs with LED ones: they save energy and last longer.
  • Switch to a bicycle. It's cool, fast, and comfortable. Once you try it, you won't want to take a "hot bus" or stand in traffic jams anymore. In addition, a bicycle is a sustainable form of transportation, it does not pollute the air with dangerous gases that fill the atmosphere in summer.
  • Share things you no longer need and buy recycled or second-hand items. This reduces the amount of consumption and use of energy resources: light and fuel.

Use eco-products

  • Use phosphate-free detergents in everyday life (and even in small businesses), such as salt and laundry soap, soda. The Internet is also now well developed with resources offering eco-friendly household chemicals.
  • Buy fewer plastic bags, go to the store with your own eco-bag, and use waterproof containers.
  • Be especially careful when choosing cosmetics and chemicals used in everyday life. Preference should be given to products that have not been tested on animals and do not have a negative impact on the environment at various stages.

Promote waste recycling

  • It is elementary but very effective to recycle plastic, glass, and paper.
  • Collect batteries separately, as they are a hazardous (toxic) type of waste. Take them to stores and institutions that are involved in the all-Ukrainian campaign "Batteries - Give it up!". Know the local coordinator of this campaign in your city.

Eat ecologically

  • Refuse from semi-finished products - meat, fish and eggs from stores. Experts say that today, the production of these products is fully controlled by monopoly companies that abuse antibiotics, overload the ecosystem, and apply the principles of intensive farming for profit. Of course, in such conditions, quality suffers.
  • Another issue is the emissions from such large enterprises, which often neglect waste disposal and drainage systems.
  • Buy local food - food that is produced in your area. Thus, this food is less chemically processed and less energy is spent on its transportation.
  • Compost food scraps - buy a composter.
  • Plant flowers on windowsills at home and in the office and trees in yards. Do not allow green spaces near your home to be cut down for parking lots or kiosks.
  • Support environmental organizations, associations, and campaigns in your city, and teach your entire family to do so, because any major change begins with local support from the population. Moreover, the environmental movement is gaining momentum globally (and in Europe). Being a responsible user of natural resources is not just fashionable. It is civilized and vital.
